7 Vegan and Vegetarian Restaurants For the Health-Conscious Eater

Guilt-free indulgences that go beyond just eating meat-free

You’d be surprised how hard it is to find a vegetarian or vegan restaurant that’s actually healthy. Many people have chosen to go meat-free for health reasons, but find that a lot of the vegetarian options in Singapore are not necessarily very healthy.

To appeal to the meat-lovers, most vegan and vegetarian restaurants have included mock meat in their menu, and these meat alternatives tend to be highly processed and made of gluten and soy protein. Add the refined grains, the excess oil to enhance the flavors, sauces and desserts laden with sugar, and your meal is not very far from junk food.

We don’t think you should give up on vegetarian and vegan restaurants, though. A clean food revolution is taking over existing and new restaurants in Singapore. Whether you’re a vegetarian/vegan or you’re looking to eat healthier, here are seven restaurants to try that don’t skimp out on taste for wholesome nutrition:

We’re starting the list with a vegan restaurant where the star is dessert. With their “sinfully healthy” vegan ice cream, Brownice is out to challenge anyone who thinks there’s no such thing as a healthy dessert that also tastes delicious. Instead of dairy and eggs, the restaurant uses organic brown rice milk, organic evaporated cane juice, and fresh fruits and nuts to make their ice cream. There are no artificial chemicals, preservatives and white processed sugar either. You’ll get a fresh and natural explosion of flavours in your mouth without the high fats, calories and sugar levels of typical ice cream brands. You can get a single scoop ($3.50), double scoop ($6.50) or triple scoop ($9), with classic flavours as exciting as Nutella and matcha.

For a more filling meal, Brownice also serves 100% vegan pizzas with fresh ingredients atop a crispy thin crust.
