Urban Decay Is Discontinuing The Naked Palette And Even Held A Funeral For Its Demise

We don’t know whether to laugh or to cry

After eight successful years, cult makeup brand Urban Decay dropped a bombshell by announcing that it will be discontinuing the widely-received Naked Palette – an eyeshadow palette that has shot the brand to fame.  The palette features 12 shadows, ranging from a warm taupe to a bold blue, and has a variety of finishes from matte to shimmer.

Nevermind if the palette is a bestseller (it is reported one is sold every seven seconds), or that it may have already become an integral part of your makeup routine, Urban Decay still went ahead with the unthinkable. The reason? The brand wants the Naked Palette to end with a bang.

“The Naked Palette has been a total game-changer and category creator, leading the palette category for the last eight years,” the brand explains in a press release. “It’s become a staple in everyone’s makeup collection, and we’re so proud of that. But they say if you’re going to go out, you should go out on top, so it’s time to do that. And, we need to make room for what’s next.”

Urban Decay also held a special “burial ceremony” for Naked in Newport Beach,  to commemorate the makeup kit’s legacy. The ceremony included beauty bloggers Kandee Johnson, Christen Dominique, Katy DeGroot, Shayla Mitchell and Chrisspy. Urban Decay brand ambassador Nicole Richie was also present to pay her last respects.
