Just three hours away from Ho Chi Minh by car, the largest city in the Mekong Delta is worth a weekend trip for its rustic charm, busy floating markets, and quaint historical sights.

1. Cai Rang Floating Market

Cai Rang Floating Market is the largest market in a network of nine tributaries in the Mekong Delta, and as its name suggests, is a market on water. Take a boat ride early in the morning to beat the boatloads of tourist and the sweltering glare of the sun. See how the Vietnamese boat people live – many of them live and do their businesses on these boats. Whether it’s a pho noodle stall, a coffee stall, or even just a fruit stall, the local hawkers do everything on their boats. Hawkers will move their boat alongside yours to offer you dragonfruit, mango, custard apple or coconut juice. The hustle and bustle is quite a sight to behold.
