Singapore, is that you?

As the plane glided to a halt on the asphalt yesterday (Sep 30), I heard a collective sigh from my fellow Singaporean travelers.

“Back to haze land”, “Aiyah, never bring mask”, were some of the laments I heard

I was returning home to Singapore after a four-day work trip at Laos and was somehow expecting to see miraculous blue skies back here after our vacation abroad — except it wasn’t the case.

For everyone hiding their faces in masks and staying indoors as if there were an impending apocalypse, here’s our guide to easing the effects of the haze.

Protect your skin

Dermalogica UltraCalming Cleanser (250ml)

Cleanse your skin and keep it safe from harmful free radicals in the haze

Our skin, the largest organ in our body, bears the brunt of daily makeup and other abuses like harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays. With haze in the air, your precious skin might even fall victim to redness and itchiness.

To keep skin clear, you might want to consider a cleanser like Dermalogica’s UltraCalming Cleanser ($79), which helps calm and cool sensitive skin.

Its key ingredients, such as raspberry and cucumber, provide soothing properties so that your inflamed skin can be eased of discomfort and redness as it heals.

Available at all authorised Dermalogica skin treatment centres – AsterSpring and exclusive Dermalogica salons.

Chase away the haze

Air Purifier - PS-S209WC

Blow, wind, blow; blow away this haze

Air purifiers are great for chasing away harmful dust particles and allergens, and even better for hazy days.

Have a go with LG’s range of air purifiers which has cutting-edge filters to rid off ultra fine particulars, bad odors and 99.9 per cent of particulate matter 2.5 (PM2.5). Long term exposure to these particles have been linked to problems like lung and heart complications.

These air purifiers are perhaps an essential, especially for homes with young children.

The LG Air Purifier R459WN and S209WC are now available in Courts, Gain City, Harvey Norman and selected NTUC Hyper mart for $399 and $299 respectively.

Save your peepers

Blink and you’ll see

Long periods spent wearing contact lenses can result in dry and irritated eyes. What more during this period of haze?

Contact lens wearers might want to pick a brand with high moisture content in the lenses, so as to provide you with maximum comfort and convenience all day long.

Bausch + Lomb’s Biotrue Oneday disposable contact lenses retain 98 per cent moisture, making it ideal for daily use.

According to Bausch + Lomb’s eye specialist Raymund Song, it is also important to keep dust particles and irritants out of your eyes by using eye drops and eyewash on a regular basis.

Dry your laundry indoors

Dehumidifier - LS136FSD0

Keep your laundry smelling fresh

These days, you either risk having your laundry smelling like the haze or reeking of mildew from dampness.

If you want to dry your laundry indoors, do it right with LG’s Multipurpose Dehumidifier which includes a Laundry Mode and Shoe Dry, shortening indoor laundry drying time by up to 4 times than regular drying, and shoe drying within an estimated 42 minutes.

In addition, fresh air is yours to inhale thanks to its Air Purifier mode which helps clean the air too.

The LG Dehumidifier (LD136FSD0) is available for $599 at Courts and Big Box.
