YOTEL Singapore: A Spaceship-Themed Hotel In Orchard Road That’s Affordable

Modern luxury without a too-high price tag

When we approached the front desk of YOTEL Singapore to check in, the receptionist showed us to the digital self-check-in kiosks. That’s the first thing that told us YOTEL isn’t your typical hotel.

Centrally located on Orchard Road (just about five minutes from Orchard MRT station), the hotel absorbs the urban vibe of the shopping district and elevates it off the streets in its design and services. Right away from the lobby on the second floor, there’s a futuristic look and feel to the whole space, much like a spaceship. Indeed, the self-check-in kiosks is just one of the many features that YOTEL borrows from luxury airline travel. The 610 rooms are also called “cabins” and the lobby is the “Mission Control.”

It’s not too surprising when you know the YOTEL hotels mostly operates in airports. Based in London, the hotel chain opened the Orchard Road branch, its first in Singapore, just recently in 2017. Another branch is coming very soon at the new Jewel Changi Airport.

Adorned with warm purple and metallic grey hues, including backlights in the elevators and hallways, YOTEL Singapore gives a whole new meaning to luxury technology. For instance, we’ve never seen service robots in an airport or airplane:

Besides being adorable, YOSHI and YOLANDA are at your service 24/7. Whether you need an extra bottle of water or clothes hanger, one of them will deliver it straight up to your door, all by itself! The guest service robots each even have their individual voice and personality. How cool is that?

We had the opportunity to stay in the Premium Queen View Cabin (for two people) for one night. The room was just a little smaller than we expected, but it’s a cosy and compact space stocked with all the amenities we would need, like a luxurious cruise or spaceship would be.

We really loved the adjustable queen-sized SmartBed™, one of YOTEL’s signature features. You can keep the bed inclined to lean on when you’re watching the TV, and with a push of a button on the side, lower it till it’s flat when you want to go to bed. We had a great night’s sleep on the super comfortable Serta mattress, too.

You wouldn’t see the view from the room unless you open the shower door, and then you’re greeted by a huge floor-to-ceiling window, looking out at the mix of skyscrapers and trees of the city.

And yes, this means you have to pull the blinds each time you pee or shower.

Our view from the 29th floor in the morning was pretty awesome:

After freshening up in our room, we headed down to the 10th floor where the newly revamped lounge area is located. You can find most of the main hotel facilities there: Komyuniti, the Japanese-inspired restaurant and bar with an alfresco terrace; the pool; and the gym.

Located right beside the restaurant, the 20-metre pool is a great place to chill out with the whole family. If you don’t feel up to swimming, you can relax with a cool drink at the terrace or pool deck, and watch your family or friends swim. We saw a family having fun splashing around in the pool as we had our breakfast.

Breakfast starts from 6:30am at Komyuniti. It’s a wide buffet spread of international flavours, both cold dishes and hot, cooked ones.

There’s even a whole station dedicated to scrambled eggs, where a chef whips it up on the spot for you, just the way you like your eggs.

If you’re starving like we were, and need a hearty, satisfying meal to start your day, there’s porridge and noodles with toppings, a whole salad bar, meat and veggie stews, and white rice to go with them.

Our bellies full and warm, we decided that the breakfast is one of our favourite parts of YOTEL Singapore. Among all the cool features and clean modern facilities. For all the high-tech amenities and its central location, YOTEL is great value for your money. Room rates start from about S$168 per night.

Looking to book a staycation with your family, your buddies, or your significant other? YOTEL Singapore has a great vibe and facilities suitable for all types of experiences and age groups to have a fun and relaxing time.
