While plenty of us look forward to celebrating Singapore’s 51st birthday at the parade or with family in front of the TV, some might be thinking of a quick getaway.

3. Hong Kong

Another paradise for the ever-hungry Singaporean, Hong Kong stands at the crossroads where legendary cuisine and traditional grub meet. As Michelin Guide sweeps over Singapore and the region, eyes are now trained on the latest list of Michelin-starred restaurants in Hong Kong, home to the first-ever Michelin-starred Chinese restaurant, Lung King Heen.

But what if your tastebuds aren’t as picky, and are craving the simpler yet equally sumptuous burst of flavour from authentic Hong Kong food? Last year, Michelin added a Street Food category and listed 23 eateries, including Butchers Club (known for its duck fat fries) and Fat Boy, which sells pig innards on skewers.

And there’s so much more to feast on that isn’t listed in the guide — simply stroll down a street or visit a wet morning market, and you could find the best egg waffles, meat bun or roasted goose in your life.
