Don’t miss out on this kaleidoscope of colours as the wildflower season begins in Western Australia

From June to November, the State of Western Australia bursts into a kaleidoscope of wildflowers. This multi-sensory experience is truly one not to be missed.

Ranked as one of Western Australia’s most precious and beloved natural assets, the state enjoys a season that starts in the Northwest before sweeping South with carpets of colour lighting up its beautifully-rugged landscapes to the Southwest.

Rare Flowers & Beautiful Landscapes

Western Australia is home to a massive 12,000 wildflower species, more than the rest of Australia combined. Around 60 per cent of Western Australia’s wildflower species are found nowhere else in the world.

North of Perth along the Coral Coast, Kalbarri National Park comes alive in August while, inland, the rare and revered wreath flower (Leschenaultia Macrantha) can be found at Paynes Find.

Mullewa is another blossoming town, with hake, heath brush and spider orchids creating a sea of colour. A short drive away, the Coalseam Conservation Park becomes carpeted with a stunning display of pink, gold, cream and white everlastings.

The South of the state hosts a magnificent floral display from September, with areas such as Esperance, Pemberton, Denmark, Northcliffe, Albany, Margaret River and the Porongurup Ranges springing to life with rare and exquisite flora.

Kings Park Wildflower Festival

A highly popular attraction for locals and visitors alike, the annual Wildflower Festival in September sees inner-city Kings Park and the Botanic Gardens mark the arrival of Spring with more than 1,700 wildflower species.

This year marks the Festival’s 50th birthday, with the theme “50 Years of Flower Power”. This celebration and showcase encompasses an extensive calendar of events and activities for everyone.

There will be live music each Sunday, family fun days, wildflower walks, art exhibitions and much more, to bring together the best of Western Australia in one of the world’s most spectacular parks. Children will be thrilled with the Adorable Florables, Kings Park’s famous wildlife characters.

There is something to suit everyone and most events are free. Go to www.bgpa.wa.gov.au/events/kings-park-festival to find out more about the festival and the programme of events and activities. The Wildflower Festival lasts until Sep 30.
