Grab your Mickey ears, Disneyland has opened in China

By Samantha Francis

After teasing fans with work-in-progress photos, Disney’s first theme park in mainland China has finally opened its gilded gates to massive crowds today (June 16).

With the promise of an “authentically Disney and distinctly Chinese” experience, visitors can expect the tallest and most interactive Enchanted Storybook Castle across all Disney parks, a cascade of stars crowned by a golden peony — a nod to the oriental theme, as well as rides exclusive to the park.

Taking after its counterparts in Anaheim, Orlando, Tokyo, Paris and Hong Kong, Shanghai Disneyland offers a plethora of themed arenas to satisfy visitors, both young and old. Sections include Fantasyland, Adventure Isle, Gardens of Imagination, Tomorrowland, Treasure Cove and Mickey’s Avenue.

Thrill seekers should make a beeline for the Tron roller coaster, which takes riders on a journey into a space, filled with lights, projections and sound effects. The coaster is also said to be among Disney’s fastest.

Shoppaholics will find themselves spoilt for choice by over 50 shops and restaurants, inclusive of the largest Lego store in the world.

Before you grab your Mickey ears and book your tickets, here are 12 photos to thrill you:
