This one-of-a-kind ‘underground’ beach hides an interesting history

This strip of sand and sea is, quite literally, a hidden gem. Located on the Marieta Islands in Mexico, Playa del Amor (“Lover’s Beach”) is also known as Mexico’s Hidden Beach.
What many might not know is that this little slice of paradise was rumoured to have been formed by a bomb blast.
In the early 1900s, the Mexican government used the uninhabited islands to conduct military tests, including the use of explosives – leading to formations like Playa del Amor.
To get here, you can rent a boat or hop on a tour out to the Pacific Ocean, and then wade or kayak your way through a 24m-long tunnel onto this mini-beach.
