Geothermal water from The Blue Lagoon originates from almost 2,000m below the earth. On its way up to the surface, during harnessing, the water picks up silica sediments and other minerals, and emerges as an opaque pastel hue of sky blue.

The water is self-cleansing and its temperatures remain between 37 and 40 deg C all year round.

The Blue Lagoon is located between Keflavik International Airport and Reykjavik, and is easily accessible by car or hourly buses from the airport.
