Kuala Lumpur is one of the most popular go-to destinations for a weekend getaway from Singapore. Just an hour away is a haven of food and shopping markets, brimming with vibrant culture. Not to mention a favourable exchange rate for Singapore visitors that makes having an amazing holiday possible on any budget.

Affordability aside, Kuala Lumpur is also identified with the number of restaurants that invite you to splurge a little to pamper yourself. If you are looking for a place to stay with easy access to both wallet-friendly and more indulgent gems in the Kuala Lumpur city centre, we recommend Travelodge Central Market. We had a wonderful stay there recently, and here are some things we love about the new hotel.

Great central location

Newly opened by Travelodge Hotels Asia in November 2018, Travelodge Central Market boasts an excellent central location in the middle of the city’s hottest attractions. Just a short distance away is the bustling Central Market, which the hotel is named after, and where visitors can shop local handicrafts and bargain goods to their heart’s content. Want to explore further parts of Kuala Lumpur? Several MRT stations as well as the Keretapi Tanah Melayu Commuter are also accessible with just a few minutes’ walk.

Spacious rooms

Guests have 198 rooms to choose from, each adorned with a local artwork that adds a warmth of Malaysian culture to the modern interior design. Whether you’re traveling solo, with family or co-workers, you can find a room type that meets your needs. On our 4-day stay, we were welcomed into a 24sqm family room which is soundproofed to minimise disturbance and maximise our relaxation.

Lounging around

The best hotels aren’t just good for sleeping, and Travelodge Central Market is no different. Guests will find many modern facilities available both for work and play, including a fitness centre where local trainers will hold various workouts. The hotel’s multi-functional lounge is the perfect spot to just chill out after a day out, or even for business! At the guest’s request, the lounge can be converted into a conference or meeting space.

Self-service laundromat

We love being pampered, but there’s a cosiness to using the facilities independently like it’s our own home. That’s why we really appreciated the self-service laundromat at Travelodge Central Market. There are 2 washers and 2 dryers; laundry detergent is provided and you just need 10 ringgit for each load. With this convenient laundromat, you don’t have to pack so many clothes to visit Kuala Lumpur; you can wash and re-wear them! Leaves more space in the luggage for your shopping!

Warm staff hospitality

When we arrived at Travelodge Central Market, the friendly staff were right there to open the door and greet us.  There are also ample staff around to address any needs of the guests.

What about the area around the hotel? What are some fun things to do just a short distance away? Lots of feasting and shopping:

1. Petaling Street Market

In just three minutes, you can walk from the hotel to Petaling Street in Chinatown, where a long stretch of stalls lie selling lots of things, including cheap wares, fresh fruit and of course, yummy street food. Most of the local food are halal, but for those who can’t live without pork (like us), there are still many options. After doing some shopping, we sat down to a bowl of curry pork noodles that was even more delicious than it looks! You’ve also got to try the famous char siew wantan mee at Koon Kee Wan Tan Mee, which has been around for more than half a century.
