Markets are the crossroads of cultures and communities, and a great place to experience interesting interactions often absent at typical tourist sites.

From quirky trinkets to wares from all over the region, markets are often both shopping streets as well as places of historical significance.

6. Singapore: Home to one of the world’s best markets

National Geographic has listed Singapore’s Kreta Ayer Wet Market as one of the world’s best markets. It has been described as “spotlessly clean” and is noted for its exotic fare, including turtles, frogs, eels and medicinal animal parts. Further praise was also given to its food centre serving local hawker fare.
