Poland: Oskar Schindler’s Enamel Factory

Oskar Schindler was a Nazi Party member who saved more than 1,000 Jews when Nazi occupiers stormed Krakow in 1939, and this museum is a must-see for those who want to learn more about a man now regarded as a hero.

At the old factory, visitors will be taken through the journey of how Schindler bribed politicians and covertly employed and housed Jews at his enamel and munition factories.

The “Kraków under Nazi Occupation 1939-1945” exhibition, which also includes Schindler’s former office, is located in the preserved administrative building of Schindler’s Enamel Factory.

The most iconic exhibit here is the “Survivors’ Ark”, featuring thousands of enamelled pots similar to those manufactured by Schindler’s employees during the war. The property also houses the Historical Museum of the City of Krakow and the Krakow Museum of Contemporary Art.
