For travellers who have admired islands and beaches from our plane windows, we'd be hard pressed to be able to capture a truly beautiful birds-eye shot that isn't obstructed by the pesky airplane wing.

While we entertain the thought of buying and packing a drone with us on our beach vacations, we're perfectly happy to stare at these stunning photographs of beaches around the world, taken in oddly satisfying composition and symmetry.

6. White Beach of Solray, Rosignano Marittimo, Italy

Originally an architect,  American artist Alex MacLean developed an interest in aerial photography when he was studying community planning, After receiving his commercial pilot license in 1975, MacLean began shooting photographs that “portrayed the history and the evolution of the land from vast agricultural patterns to city grids”.

He has won numerous awards for his works, which have been exhibited all over the world.
