Trying to find a nice white sandy beach getaway that won't break the bank can feel like a mere dream for some. But a great find lies in Cambodia, in the islands that dot Sihanoukville — in fact, you can probably save more money than you'd expect.

Koh Rong is one of the more developed islands off Cambodia's coast, requiring only a short 45 minute-long boat ride. For biodiversity and amazing Instagram photos without the scary prices, here's how to have truly self-spoiling weekend here on a budget.

What do spend on in Koh Rong

Once you arrive in Koh Rong after a 45 minute journey, you’ll see the beautiful white sands and crystal clear water that will remind you that the journey was well worth it.

Depending on the size of your group and your accommodation budget, there are a myriad of bungalows and guesthouses available on Koh Rong. Most places cost between 40,000 and 80,000 riel for a shared private room.

As for food and drinks, most main meals cost between 12,000 and 20,000 riel, and anything alcoholic starts from 12,000 riel – unless you’re satisfied with 4,000-riel beers.

If you’re after something more energetic, there are many boats tours available throughout the day, ranging from snorkelling to a BBQ on the boat to finding glowing blue plankton. The tours start from 40,000 riel.
