The centrepiece of summer, Coachella (along with its quirky fashion sentiments) may have come and gone, but the carnival spirit never truly leaves.

For those experiencing festival envy, here are five anticipated events happening much closer to home.

3. Summer Sonic, Tokyo & Osaka, Japan

When: 18-20 Aug

A scaled-down version of the Fuji Rock Festival, Summer Sonic is another massive affair held in the cities of Tokyo and Osaka in Japan. While some of the acts only play at one of the two locations, they do occasionally coincide.

For instance, this year, Calvin Harris will play on both Tokyo and Osaka stages. Other big acts coming in include Foo Fighters and 5 Seconds of Summer.

The festival areas are quite large and often span multiple stages both indoors and outdoors — so be sure to grab a map. Tickets start from 14,000 yen for one day.
