1. Mount Tateyama

Few places are worth the visit in all four seasons, but Mount Tateyama is beautiful all year round. The 37km Tateyama Kurobe Alphine Route takes you 1,975m up to the peak of Mount Tateyama and down again seamlessly via a mix of buses, cliff railway trains, electric trolleybuses, trams and walking.

Along the way, you’ll stop by Kurobe Dam, an impressive engineering feat that was built post-World War II between 1956 and 1963. If you love snow, the best time to view the yukino-otani (snow wall) is from April to June.
