Build a Lego on your wrist

Blocks is the world’s first modular Smartwatch which you can build any way you want

Each individual block, which can be connected to the main watch face, performs a specific function.

For those who are new to the term ‘modular’, think of the concept as a series of Lego blocks.

Each individual block performs a specific function. You are then able to mix and match it with other blocks to create a synchronised device.

That’s the idea behind the latest smartwatch in town, Blocks.

The watch face is fully functional on its own and has all the features that typically come with a smartwatch, including voice controls and Wi-Fi connectivity. However, the strap is made up of several modules, each of which has its own function.

Examples include heart rate monitors, cameras and battery chargers.

In other words, you can customise Blocks’ functionality to your needs, creating your own modular smartwatch.

Going for a trip out to the mountains? Simply connect the GPS, Adventure and Air Quality modules to the watch face.

Planning on a shopping spree? Just link the NFC Contactless module, which transforms the watch into a mobile wallet.

With these functionalities, Blocks becomes highly future-proof as each block can be swapped for more updated ones.

Still, the biggest con about Blocks would be that it is still unavailable for commercial sale — for now. The watch’s manufacturers recently launched a campaign on crowd-funding site Kickstarter and have managed to raise 400 per cent of their pledge-funding goal.

You will be able to pre-order your Blocks with four modules, including international shipping cost, if you pledge US$285 ($397) to its campaign.

Blocks will be compatible for both Android and iOS users, and the expected shipping date looks set to be May 2016.
Is it worth the wait? Only time will tell.
