Did you know that Danish artists and architects were among the first in the Western world to embrace Japanese art and craftsmanship, at the end of the 19th Century?

This explains why there are such similarities between Danish and Japanese design cultures, and it certainly explains why the recent collaboration between BoConcept and critically-acclaimed Japanese design studio nendo makes perfect sense.

Keeping in mind the strong influence that Japanese design has on modern living, BoConcept approached nendo founder Oki Sato to create a suite of key furniture pieces and accessories that reflect the urban dweller’s desire for easy, functional design with a measured dose of personality.

Taking inspiration from the traditional Japanese art of origami, Oki saw the collection as a series of two- and three-dimensional forms. This plays out nicely in the “Fusion” armchair with its sculptural, enveloping shape. The theme continues in the sofa, rug, cushions and cups.

The collection is elegant in its simplicity. At the same time, peeks of playfulness surface ever so often – it is signature nendo.

“The nendo look is pure and authentic with a very minimal touch,” says Collection Director at BoConcept, Claus Ditlev.

“But that’s not all – nendo gives something more with their design. A little twist that catches the eye and creates a small moment,” he says.

As its tag line succinctly states, the Fusion collection is about “creating small moments in big city life”.
