1. Turn off AR for easy capturing

While it might be a riot seeing Bulbasaur land on your friend’s derriere, you’re better off switching off the Augmented Reality (AR) mode for less distraction. You’ll find that wild Pokémon sits a lot stiller on the plain grassy field for an easier target.

2. Master the curveball

If you’re a beginner, you might still be struggling with the straight throw — where you simply hold onto the Pokéball before flinging it straight at the Pokémon. Once you’ve managed that, it’s time to master the curveball to gain more XP. Simply tap the ball, hold it and spin it clock- or counterclockwise till it sparkles, before tossing it towards the creature.

Here’s a bonus, try throwing the curve ball in the opposite direction of the initial spin for more XP bonus!

3. Know how much XP you’re earning

Pokémon captured: 100 XP

Capture bonuses:
Nice: 10 XP
Great: 100 XP
Excellent: 100 XP
Curveball: 10 XP
