4. Get Pikachu from the start

A bit of rebellion goes a long way when it comes to getting the adorable Pikachu as your starter Pokémon. When asked by the Professor to catch a starter Pokémon — Charmander, Squirtle or Bulbasaur, simply walk away from them in real life.

After which, your phone should vibrate and these same three Pokémon will appear again. Repeat for three to five times and Pikachu should make his appearance, allowing you to catch him with your Pokeball.

5. Make use of Singapore’s many Pokémon Go maps

There’s Grab’s crowdsourced Pokemon Go map, which features locations of Pokémon contributed by select Pokémon GO trainers who seek to share the latest updates on the nation’s Pokémon GO hotspots. If you’d like to venture further to seek rare Pokémon, be sure to check out these Zoo/Safari maps, which marks out the 78 Pokéstops and 8 Pokémon Gyms located there.
