It’s no fun when dark roots start peeking out from your colourful pastel mane. I know, because my flamingo pink hair was starting to look a little worse for the wear.
To fix my outgrown roots, Ken Hong from Evolve Salon used the technique of reverse ombre. He added a dark shade of brunette, weaving it seamlessly from my roots.
The result? A two-toned yet natural look that can be easily maintained with John Frieda’s Brilliant Brunette Visibly Brighter range of hair products.
If you’ve got brunette hair — whichever shade of brown it is — consider this hair care range a game changer.
The Brilliant Brunette Visibly Brighter range is the brand’s first at-home product range, which works to lighten and brighten brunette colour.

To fix outgrown roots at home, simply use the In-Shower Lightening Treatment, which lightens hair by up to one shade in five minutes.
With the provided gloves, I applied the product to my roots, leaving it on for about five minutes before washing it off.
And as promised, my roots were a little lighter, with a honey-like tone to it.
The products comes in a unique two-chamber dispenser, which releases a low level peroxide developer and a surfactant activator. When combined, they react with and break down the melanin found in hair, resulting in lightened hair.
In the long run, the haircare range aims to illuminate warm honey and caramel tones in brunette hair, so that it looks naturally lightened by the sun.
Maintenance is pretty simple too, with the Brilliant Brunette Visibly Brighter Shampoo and Conditioner set. Each wash gently deposits golden tones on the hair via yellow dyes, giving life to hair with illuminated shades.
If regular salon touch-ups are too troublesome, consider this your trusty quick fix!
