Those who fancy wild and colourful hair will be truly spoilt for choice at cult UK hair label TIGI’s first professional salon in Singapore.

Famed for their fresh and edgy street trends, the hair brand caters to fashionable rebels who have no qualms about experimenting with their mane.

The best part of all? Their new salon at Orchard Gateway will offer haircuts and colouring services alongside a full-fledged retail space purveying iconic products including the Bed Head Motor Mouth Mega Volumizer with Gloss, Superstar Queen For A Day Thickening Spray and Flexi Head Hairspray.

I trooped into the salon last month to try out TIGI’s Bed Head Colour Trip range and lived to tell the story.

The electrifying range of 12 long-lasting, semi-permanent and acidic shades are designed to last through 20 hair washes.

As for me, it’s been more than a month and my purple mane is still as striking as before.

Curious to try it out for yourself? Drop by to chat with hair experts Hidero Nakagami, Ralf Boss and Andy Cheong.

Hi Hidero, what have you been up to lately?

Hidero Nakagami: I’m good. I’ve just moved from Tokyo to Singapore to head the salon here so I’m just settling in right now.

How can we look forward to at TIGI’s first-ever professional salon in Singapore?

Hidero:  Of course, as TIGI is famous for its creative elements, we can do creative hairstyles, tailor-made cuts or tailor-made colours; but we also do classic cuts and wearable colours for people who don’t want to go too far out maybe because of their professions or their lifestyle. We also want to be known for our high-quality cuts and colour at a reasonable price, and in a comfortable, premium setting in the middle of Orchard Road.

What are your top 3 hair trends this season and why?

Hidero: Trends used to start in London or Tokyo or NY, but now it’s like “boom!”; they are everywhere at the same time because of social media and they are all online.

The trends in hair right now are all about colour, and TIGI has very strong colour collections like the new Colour Trip collection of rebellious colours; so it’s easy for us to come into Singapore with TIGI colours. Singapore women and men seem to have really embraced bright fashion colours compared to Japan; they are more willing to experiment.

Ralf Boss: The trends in cuts are seventies elements like long and outgrown fringes; razor cuts with longer outlines; and a natural silhouette and textures like natural curls and waves.

If you could give anyone in the world a hair makeover, who’d it be and why?

Ralf:  David Lynch has V shaped hair and he looks wild; I would keep that but make it better.

Andy: Phua Chu Kang; he can definitely carry off Colour Trip

How should one go about picking the right hair colour to match one’s skin tone?

Andy Cheong: We are coming out with a lot of cool tones, which work well for Asian skin because our skin undertone is naturally warm so cool tones neutralise that. Warm tones like copper look awful on tanned Asian skin. I always ask what my customers’ occupation are and what colour they dislike. It really depends on their lifestyle; it’s important that the customer can wear it with confidence in their daily lives.
