Can you whiten teeth by up to eight shades in just 20 minutes?

A beautiful smile does wonders, whether you’re hoping to impress a potential employer or charm a date.

Unfortunately, most of us grapple with less than perfect teeth. If your teeth looks yellowed or stained from lifestyle habits such as smoking, drinking coffee or wine, the thought of undergoing a teeth whitening procedure may have crossed your mind.

Whiter teeth in 20 minutes?

But we’ve found an easier alternative. iWhite, a Belgium-based purveyor of teeth whitening solutions has launched a range of teeth whitening solutions in Singapore.

Lured by the bid for whiter teeth, we gave the iWhite Instant Whitening Kit ($49.90) a try. The professional, home-based teeth whitening kit comes in a box comprising 10 pre-filled, thin and flexible trays and claims to be able to whiten teeth by up to eight shades in just 20 minutes.

After brushing my teeth, I removed the pre-filled tray from the sealed sachet, placing it gently in my mouth. While the shape of the tray didn’t mold perfectly to my teeth, a bit of manual adjusting did the job. With the gel in contact with my teeth’s surface, there was a cold-ish sensation.

Verdict

20 minutes later, I removed the tray and rinsed my mouth in order to get rid of the residue. Was my teeth significantly whiter on the whole? Not quite, but the discolouration on a particular tooth of mine seemed to have lighten.

Following my first attempt, I decided to try wearing the tray for 20 minutes a day for a whole consecutive week.

The verdict? My friends observed my teeth looked ‘cleaner’ and ‘whiter’ than usual. However, the downside was that my teeth seemed a little more sensitive to cold foods.
