6 Ways You May Be Neglecting Your Scalp

Because healthy hair starts from the roots, it’s of prime importance to care for your scalp

Always rinse your hair well, especially if you use hairstyling products.

1. Using shampoo that’s too strong

Consider trying a milder shampoo or trading the shampoo that you use at the moment, for its lighter, less soapy and more natural equivalent.

2. Piling on hair products

Alcohol-based hairstyling products and heavy styling pastes, can and often are the main causes of sensitive and itchy scalp.

If you use them on a daily basis, be sure to rinse them off completely so that the chemicals don’t build up, causing the scalp to react the way it does.

The solution? Try different up-dos that don’t require as much styling aids and always rinse your hair well.

3. Not moisturising your scalp

Dry, sensitive and flaky scalp requires regular moisture to rebuild the natural barrier that retains all the essential oils.

Using a regular moisturiser is all good, but now and then, try natural products like herbal oils.

Argan, jojoba, almond oil or any good natural plant-oil moisturiser can “feed” the skin and restore the scalp’s natural balance.

4. Not pampering your scalp enough

If your scalp suffers from the occasional discomfort, uncomfortable dryness, itchiness or burning sensation, a nice soothing chamomile or lavender tea rinse will provide that much-needed relief.

In fact, pretty much any herb known for its soothing properties will do the trick and, if you don’t have time to prepare teas, you can always opt for natural hair products with chamomile or lavender extracts.

5. Using the hairdryer all the time

A hairdryer, when used excessively, can make your hair look lifeless. Hence, allow your hair to dry naturally at times and try a fuss-free hairstyle that doesn’t require heat styling.

6. Over-styling your mane

If you must dye your hair, opt for no bleaching or a gentler dye. Those used to wearing their hair in a bun or ponytail, should let their hair down occasionally for the scalp to rest.
