Avoid these mistakes at USA airports for a smoother trip

After flying 22 hours without in-flight entertainment, I heaved a big sigh of relief. I've finally arrived at the Big Apple, New York City, safe and sound.

However, the next hour and a half was spent finding my way around in old-school fashion - think physical maps and asking for directions. Looking back, I spotted some fatal errors that could have saved me time to explore the city instead.

Here are five things I've learned to prepare before landing in US for a trouble-free trip.

5. Go cashless

While traditional travellers would say cash is king, in the US, it seemed to be that majority of the people go cashless and use cards for all expenses. From paying for a cup of morning coffee to Uber rides, international credit cards (Visa, MasterCard and American Express) are accepted widely.

If you still feel that cash is something you would prefer as a mode of payment while changing money at money exchanges, do ask for $10, $20, $50 dollar denominations instead of the usual $100 dollar notes as most places don’t accept the $100 bill.

Debit cards are also a better option than credit cards as currency exchange rates are fixed upon point of transaction, while credit card rates can fluctuate throughout the month before your next billing cycle.
