8 Reasons Why You Should Check-In Early At Changi Airport

Your holiday begins even before you board the plane

By Pamela Chow and Nicole-Marie Ng

You’ve beaten the queue (yay!) and cleared customs way ahead of the crowd. Congratulations! You check your boarding time and lo and behold, you’ve got a handsome two hours to spare.

Instead of lounging at your boarding gate and draining your phone battery, here’s what you can check out at Changi Airport to pass the time before you jet off.

1. Sample the Singapore Sling and other cocktails for free

Never gotten the chance to taste the original Singapore Sling from Raffles Hotel?

Now you can do just that in Changi – at no cost. Head to the Raffles Long Bar at DFS Duplex in Terminal 3 to sample the iconic Singapore Sling and other cocktails for free.

Prices offered here are the region’s lowest duty free prices, with savings of up to 70 per cent off tipples in the city.

2. Be a soccer star

Until Jun 9, you can explore the Hugo Boss #successismade Stadium at the Changi Airport Terminal 1 departure area.

Challenge your friends to a friendly round of foosball or test your soccer skills at the Boss Digital Penalty Simulation. Score goals to stand a chance to win a Boss soccer ball signed by Real Madrid star James Rodríguez.

Purchase the classic Boss Bottled Unlimited fragrance, a sporty scent with notes pineapple and sandalwood, to walk away with exclusive gifts including a Hugo Boss pouch and soccer ball.

5. Explore 3 different gardens

Every terminal in Changi Airport has a different garden with a perfect view of the airport runway. Snap a selfie at the rooftop Cactus Garden at Terminal 1, Sunflower Garden in Terminal 2 or the Butterfly Garden at Terminal 3.

If you can only choose to visit one, we highly recommend the Butterfly Garden, which has over 1,000 tropical butterflies for you to interact with. The peaceful garden has a 6m-tall grotto waterfall and is full of lush greenery and blooming flowers for a slice of serenity before you fly.

6. Go on a nature or art trail

The airport’s three terminals house various spots of lush greenery and intriguing artworks specially commissioned by local artists.

Look out for the following installations: “Going Home” by Han Meilin at T3 (Immigration Hall near A gates, Transit Area), “Saga Seed” by Kumari Nahappan at T3 (Immigration Hall near B gates, Transit Area) and the famous “Kinetic Rain” by Artcom at T1 (Departure Hall, Public Area).

7. Catch a pre-flight movie

If you have a lot of time to spare before you board your flight, you don’t have to worry about a lack of entertainment.

Enjoy movies of different genres at the movie theatre at Terminal 3 or the Fox Movies Premium Channel at Terminal 2, where screenings are available free-of-charge and 24 hours daily.

8. Keep the young ones entertained

Do your kids prefer more action? Keep them busy with fun activities at the airport’s entertainment deck.

For example, check out the world’s tallest slide in an airport with The Slide at T3, or let them get creative with arts and crafts at the wood block rubbing stations throughout the airport.
