1. Shakespeare’s Globe

After a successful run in 2015, Shakespeare’s Globe returns to Singapore this month with three of the bard’s most popular plays: Twelfth Night, The Merchant of Venice, and The Taming of the Shrew. The company of just eight actors first performed the plays in London at the Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, the reconstructed iconic site that was home to Shakespeare’s original playing company, before setting out on a national and international tour in May. From 18 to 22 September, catch the highly acclaimed company in the School of The Arts (SOTA) Concert Hall, bringing us not just the three plays, but also an old theatre tradition from Shakespeare’s days: leaving the choice of play up to the audience. That’s right; for two performances on 22 September, you get to cast your vote among the three plays, and the company will perform the chosen play on the spot. A first for the Shakespeare’s Globe company, this exciting concept puts a modern spin on the old tradition where the most powerful member of household got to choose the play. So if you can’t decide which play you’d like to see, let the company impress you at one of the Audience’s Choice shows, where not knowing what to expect is part of the fun.
