Up-and-coming musician Suf Supiani just launched his debut album, Solitude. Meeting this talented and positive young man, no one would be able to tell that he once had a major struggle with mental illness.

With his hopeful lyrics and upbeat tracks, Suf inspires us to dig deep during tough times.

Congrats on your new album. What inspired you to create Solitude?

I was inspired by Luigi, my cat who passed on one week prior to my departure to Mauritius for recording. I was grieving but I persisted with my mission because I was very sure he would want me to finish strong.

During the lowest points of my life, I’d hug Luigi tightly to ease the panic attacks. He provided me with a sense of purpose to continue fighting, to believe in myself again.

What does music creation mean to you?

Composing and performing music is a great way for me to express and balance my emotions. A good performance often makes me feel calm, warm and enlightened, especially when audiences are enthralled by my songs.

It’s affirmation of my strengths and that I have what it takes to forge ahead.

What’s your favourite track from the album?

My favourite track is “Do it”, composed when I was in high spirits. Its catchy tune will be motivating to the masses.
