Shocking Betrayals Await In Fast And Furious 8

After watching F8, the “furious” in “Fast and Furious” will refer to your mood

The daredevils of Fast and Furious have finally settled down. Dominic “Dom” Toretto (portrayed by Vin Diesel) and Letty Ortiz (Michelle Rodriguez) are on their honeymoon, and the rest of the globetrotting team is either retired or exonerated.

But the reckless are not fated for normal life. In Fast and Furious 8 – alternatively named The Fate of the Furious or F8 – a mysterious woman “Cipher” (Charlize Theron) seduces Dom back into the world of crime he cannot seem to escape.

Coupled with a betrayal of those closest to him, Dom will face trials that test him as never before, traversing from the shores of Cuba to the icy plains off the arctic Barents Sea, in order to prevent an anarchist from unleashing global devastation.

Dom goes rogue

Along with the arrival of the enigmatic Cipher comes painful, but necessary, challenges for Dom. Teasing her role in the movie, Theron reveals, “This is a franchise that has been built for 16 years on this idea of family… To play a character that has to kind of break all of that up, it was fun, yeah, and challenging.”

One of these trials include a passionate kissing scene between Dom and Cipher, which the muscleman’s onscreen wife, Letty, is forced to witness. For fans who have become familiar with Dom’s strong sense of loyalty, the character’s shocking actions in F8 will erupt a “tsunami”, Diesel muses.

In real life, however, filming this scene was no tribulation. Diesel quips, “Charlize Theron is not a bad kissing partner to have. There are worse things that can happen to you. Do I know she enjoyed it? Oh, my God, yeah. She owned it.”

Remembering Paul Walker

While the seventh movie was still under production, returning actor Paul Walker – who portrayed Dom’s close friend Brian O’Conner – was killed in a single-car collision. Furious 7 was released posthumously, and F8 is the first in the franchise to not star Walker.

Actor Scott Eastwood, who stars in F8 as a sidekick to Kurt Russell’s Mr Nobody, has opened up about working on the late actor’s set.

“On some days I would feel his presence there and suddenly I’d be on the verge of tears,” confesses Eastwood, who knew Walker for almost 15 years and saw him as a close older brother. “There were moments when I just felt completely overwhelmed by missing him.”

He continues, “Vin [Diesel] and Tyrese [Gibson] and I would stop and share stories about him. The whole experience mirrored a lot of the themes that feature in the movie. It was a powerful thing and I was honoured to be a part of it.”
