Fox's CinemaCon presentation on Thursday revealed a surprise guest with an even more surprising announcement: director James Cameron is working on four sequels to his 2009 blockbuster Avatar, reported cnn.com.

Scheduled to be released in 2018, 2020, 2022 and 2023, the sequels will form a "true epic saga", said Cameron.

He had previously planned three, but found it too constraining. He explained, "We began to bump up against the limitations for our art form."

The sequels will see the return of main stars from the original, reported screenrant.com. They include Sam Worthington as Jake Sully, Zoe Saldana as Neytiri, Stephen Lang as the dictatorial Colonel Quaritch and Sigourney Weaver as Dr Grace Augustine.

The last two characters perished in the first movie, so it's a mystery how they will make their comeback.

Cameron aims to release Avatar 2 in December 2018. What do you hope to see in the sequels?

In the meantime, here's a look at the top movie moments of the first Avatar:
