22 Jump Street: Too cool for school

Familiar college themes are revisited as comedy superstar Jonah Hill and all-round hunk Channing Tatum return to go undercover once more

Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill. Few words can aptly describe the brilliance of this power-packed combo or partnership.

Now, 22 Jump Street brings Jenko (Tatum) and Schmidt (Hill) together once again as undercover cops, this time in a local college. Temperatures further rise and the action gets wilder.

22 Jump Street is the sequel to 2012’s 21 Jump Street, the film adaptation of the original TV series starring a very young (and strikingly handsome) Johnny Depp.

The Winning Formula

This time, 22 Jump Street has a somewhat different setting and storyline but still succeeds in repeating the hilarity of 21 Jump Street. Jenko and Schmidt unite in a course of amateurish undercover operations and it is almost tragic at times.

The movie presents similar-styled antics as in the previous installation, with fresh jokes revolving around its winning formula – the unlikely partnership remains comedic gold as it did in the first movie. Whether or not you are convinced, Tatum and Hill have more to give in this new movie.

A Brilliant Partnership

As Tatum himself proclaims, he had never identified himself with comedy until lately. The star that numerous women swoon over is better known for his parts in action-packed films such as White House Down and G.I. Joe as well as romantic hits like The Vow.

In fact, 22 Jump Street’s executive producer Tania Landau praises Tatum’s athleticism in the film, which brought a level of stunts and slapstick comedy that was completely fresh.

Tatum himself testifies to the comedic brilliance of his co-star, Hill, as well as the comedic geniuses behind the show, directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. Lord and Miller recently cooperated on writing and directing The Lego Movie, in which Tatum voiced Superman.

Nevertheless, where Tatum lacks, Hill is there to cover him and vice versa. This partnership is pretty good and amusing.

To Catch or Not To?

22 Jump Street promises to be an entertaining sequel, bringing familiar scenes or recipes for success in a new school setting.
Together with a line-up of up-and-coming actors in the supporting cast, this movie is a must for lovers of 21 Jump Street.
