Manchester madness

Robin van Persie celebrates the injury time goal against Chelsea. Could we see similar scenes at the Etihad Stadium this weekend?

Can a derby get any bigger than the Manchester one? Will the Reds go marching on, or will the Blue Moon keep rising?

Ah, Manchester. A place known for the best football talents over the years.

Now, one club is on its way to create a dynasty, while the other is struggling to maintain its own. Will Manchester be Blue or Red this weekend?

Manchester City vs Manchester Utd (2 Nov, Sun, 9.30pm)

It seems that both City and United have a common enemy this season: Chelsea. They both needed a late goal to secure a point at home against the league leaders, with United needing Robin van Persie’s 94th minute equaliser to even the score just last week.

This weekend, however, sees sworn enemies battle it out once again. The Red Devils are still struggling while the Citizens are smarting from a shock defeat last week. Neither team can afford losing even more ground to Chelsea.

But something’s gotta give, and City’s squad seems too strong to ignore. United might be improving, yes, but City will have a point to prove and to return to winning ways after its shock defeat to West Ham.

Seeing how the Red Devils have lost four out of their last five appearances at the Etihad, all signs point to a City victory. Sorry, United fans.

Prediction: Manchester City 2-1 Manchester Utd

Newcastle vs Liverpool (1 Nov, Sat, 8.45pm)

Newcastle’s victory over Spurs last week must have been a pleasant surprise for their fans but surely expecting another good result against Liverpool would be pushing it a little.

Yes, the Reds are not at their best at the moment, as exemplified by the enigmatic Mario Balotelli. But he only needs one goal to turn things around, and it could very well be against the Magpies.

Prediction: Newcastle 1-2 Liverpool

Chelsea vs Queens Park Rangers (1 Nov, Sat, 11pm)

Did someone say top versus bottom? Yup, this could very well be one of the most one-sided games we’ll see. Stock up your Chelsea players in your Fantasy team and put Diego Costa as your Captain (that is, if he is playing)!

Heck, I’m going to bet all my life savings on it being a walk in the park.

Prediction: Chelsea 4-0 QPR
