Emmys 2016: The Nominations Are In!

Both pleasant surprises and dramatic snubs abound at this year’s Emmys

TV will be celebrating its biggest night on 18 Sep on ABC.

Unsurprisingly, HBO has received 94 Primetime Emmy nominations, the most of any Television network this year. Game of Thrones leads the pack with 23 nominations, including the highest nod of “Outstanding Drama Series”.

However, there were some surprises too, some good, others bad. The Americans and Mr Robot broke into the top spot for “Outstanding Drama Series”, nudging out Orange is the New Black and Mad Men. In fact, Orange is the New Black was not nominated for any of the major categories, earning our vote for the biggest snub this year. Especially considering the fact that Uzo Aduba (Crazy-eyes) won last year.

Where Netflix shines this year is in the “Outstanding Comedy Series” category, earning nods for Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Master of None — a personal favourite that I hope will win. But, if Modern Family earns the award back from Veep, it will surpass Frasier as the comdedy with the most wins in that category of all time.

Here is a list of some of the most hotly anticipated categories.
