Fans of David Beckham – which probably means fans of football in general – were given an early Christmas treat this past weekend.
The celebrated star made a stop by Singapore to spend time with the Sands for Singapore beneficiaries, as well as to deck the halls of Marina Bay Sands (MBS) with colourful Christmas decorations.
Beckham, a Sands Ambassador, greeted thousands of fans at MBS’ Skating Rink on Saturday as he graced the property’s Festive Light-Up. With MBS President and CEO George Tanasijevich, Beckham hung Christmas ornaments at the Rink to launch the celebrations at the integrated resort.
When asked what the festive season means to him, Beckham shared: “(For me, the spirit of giving is) to be able to give back at Christmas at such a special time – and it’s also a tough time for many people around the globe. So I’m very happy to be in a position where I can help people.”
Throughout his career, the magnanimous Englishman had always wanted to give back to the community once he retired. Since he announced his retirement in 2013, he has been making good on his word, using his position of popularity to support the humanitarian efforts of UNICEF.
Earlier that afternoon, the legendary footballer spent quality time with about 200 excited youths from Marina Bay Sands’ designated charities. He took the time to chat and kick soccer balls with the beneficiaries of Association for Persons with Special Needs, Ang Mo Kio Family Service Centres, and Student Care Service.
