What it’s about: It’s the late 1970s in the US, and the FBI is just beginning to develop criminal psychology and criminal profiling. We follow agents from FBI’s new Behavioral Science Unit, Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff) and Bill Tench, as they study various serial killer cases and try to create a system that can predict future criminal behaviours.

Why you should watch: There’s no case-per-episode storyline here, but smaller mysteries folded into a larger narrative, and this different approach to crime drama is what helps the series shine. The dingy period aesthetic sucks you right into the daily lives of FBI agents, who deal with compelling real-life murder cases that will keep you binge watching to find out more. It’s the kind of elevated and intelligent crime series you’d expect from director and executive producer David Fincher.

Season One is currently available on Netflix, and Season Two is in production.
