Textures 2019: 7 Highlights You Should Attend At The Local Literary Festival

Celebrate Sing Lit with some of our best in the scene

Did you know that March is designated as National Reading Month in the United States? Though it's not a thing in Singapore, the folks behind Textures may be planning to make it so. The literary festival launched to much success in March 2018, and is making its return this year from 7 to 10 March at The Arts House. Co-commissioned by The Arts House and the #BuySinglit movement, and supported by the National Arts Council, Textures is all about celebrating Singapore literature. This year, the festival explores a range of emotions that words express through the theme of "Love and Loss (and some things in between)."

The programme is packed with so many exciting performances, exhibitions, panel discussions and creative workshops, some taking place at the same time - how do we choose which ones to attend? To help you decide, we've picked out seven events we're most excited for. Call up your friends for a lit-terrific weekend, and don't forget to support our authors and discover new reads at the #BuySingLit Book Bazaar, happening at the Arts House Gallery from 8 to 10 March.

6. Safe Space Stories

Always dreamed of being a writer, but nervous about sharing your own stories with other people? The folks at Textures know the feeling; that’s why they are organising Safe Space Stories to create a supportive environment where you can feel comfortable to share and work on stories with fellow aspiring writers. Writer and editor Paul Rozario-Falcone leads this workshop, providing you with prompts and constructive feedback to get your creative juices flowing.

The workshop will be held at the Council Room on 9 March (1pm to 4pm) and 10 March (10am to 1pm). The first session is now sold out! Get your tickets ($10) to the second session here.
