In celebration of the 50th anniversary of Singapore-Japan diplomatic relations, a 10-day Hokkaido festival is happening at Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) where you can indulge in authentic Hokkaido eats, music and drinks, bring home a piece of Hokkaido from the retail stalls and even score a getaway to Hokkaido at a great price.

The inaugural Hello Hokkaido! festival opens today and will be held until 27 Nov, 11am to 10pm, at The Forum and the Resorts World Convention Centre.

This 10-day festival will feature a Japanese yatai (food cart) street with more than 20 food and retail stalls and a sake bar serving sakes from two of the top sake breweries in Hokkaido. These will be accompanied by musical acts hailing from Hokkaido, exciting tour packages and crab-inspired dishes from nine celebrity chef restaurants.

The finer Hokkaido experience

For those with a passion for Japanese rice wine, look out for the sake bar, which serves an impressive range of sakes from Hokkaido breweries — Kitano Homare and Nippon Seishu— as well as wines from Hakodate Wine and Grande Polaire breweries.

Sake lovers and even guests who are starting out their sake journey will be delighted to find that there will be a Sake Social Event on 19 and 26 Nov, from 3pm to 6pm, where a Sake Sommelier will be present to introduce these sake and provide some insight on how to pair the most suitable sake with the food from the yatai stalls.

Nine celebrity chef restaurants at Resorts World Sentosa are joining in the festivities by incorporating the luxurious Hokkaido crabs into various dishes and set menus, such as uni (sea urchin), kani (crab), hotate (scallop) and ikura (salmon roe).

Highlights to look out for include the Zuwai gani shabu shabu at Syun, which is helmed by Kobe-born Chef Hal Yamashita; Snow Crab Cannelloni at Ocean Restaurant by Cat Cora and Hokkaido Alaska Crab Steamed in Chinese Wine with Egg White and Vermicelli at one-Michelin starred Forest.

These culinary creations and more will be available both a la carte and in special set menus from now to 27 Nov.
