Celebrate the Year of the Pig with big parades and festivities
As the red decorations and loud music around the city make it clear, Chinese New Year is almost here! Huat will you be doing to celebrate the occasion? Apart from visiting your relatives and eating up as many yummy snacks as you can, of course. There are vibrant and exciting things to do with your loved ones all over Singapore. So put on your luckiest outfit and head out to soak in the festive atmosphere at these events and activities.
1. Chinese New Year Celebrations at Chinatown
For large-scale festivities rich in Chinese culture, look no further than the celebrations at Chinatown. See the streets of the iconic district lit up at night with colourful handcrafted lanterns, over 2,000 of them, including the spectacular 12 metres-tall lantern sculpture of a family of pigs. Snap a photo with the pigs to bring you the good fortune the zodiac animal symbolises. Join the free walking trail to find the best photo opportunities along the streets of Chinatown. The Festive Street Bazaar is already up and running till 4 February, so shop and chow down on festive goodies while you enjoy the nightly live performances at Kreta Ayer Square. With two mega-popular events happening – the International Lion Dance Competition on 26 January, and the Countdown Party on the night of 4 February – you can bet Chinatown will be the place to be on the days leading up to Chinese New Year.
