There was a hole in our hearts last year when Neon Lights announced that it would be taking the year off. The annual indie music and arts festival only began in 2015, but it has introduced over ten thousand audiences to some of the hottest regional and international acts.
And that’s happening again this year. Neon Lights is back, set to stitch up our broken hearts with a stellar line-up.
For starters, there’s an added day of fun. Previously a two-day event, Neon Lights is expands to three days, from 9 to 11 November. Held once again at Fort Gate, Fort Canning Park, the festival promises a long weekend of non-stop entertainment.
Kicking things off on a high note on Friday is one of the biggest names in the line-up: Malaysian and Los Angeles-based R&B sensation, Yuna. Other exciting headliners include indie rock band Interpol, playing their first show in Singapore and Southeast Asia, and fast-rising dream-pop group Cigarettes After Sex. The eclectic range of talents continue with the edgy likes of electronic-pop Caribou and post-punk band Bodega.
Neon Lights is also well-known for showcasing up-and-coming local and regional acts, and this third edition is no different. From Thailand, Paradise Bangkok Molam International Band and indie artist Phum Viphurit will be here following their international success. Get ready to show some local pride for Singapore bands Riot !n Magenta and Sobs, who will also be delighting us with new music.
The newly announced Phase 2 of the line-up brings more electrifying music to Neon Lights. Joining the Sunday show is the Australian electronic music duo Peking Duck, while the hit DJs of Silent Disco Asia keeps you grooving all three nights. Caribou also treats us to an alternate set on Sunday, and it truly is an “alternate” experience – the star transforms into his underground dance music alter ego, Daphni, on the Easy Street Stage.
In this family-friendly festival, there are lots of games and workshops for all ages to get hands-on, too. Learn to make wearable wooden necklaces and rings from an expert designer, get your face and body glowing with UV paint, and more! After a long day of dancing and playing, power up by digging into the delicious street snacks available.
