Tony’s Pizza on River Valley Road is known for its New York style pizzas with thin crust, aged cheese and homemade tomato sauce. Nearly a year after opening, Tony’s Pizza expands its menu to include a selection of yummy pastas.

Tony’s Pizza works closely with Tony Varvara, owner of Elegante Pizzeria in Brooklyn, New York, in the USA. The chef of Tony’s Pizza has also trained under Tony in New York to bring the most authentic New York pizzas to Singapore.

New Champs on the Block

So far, Tony’s has introduced only two pastas to its menu as it gauges customer response. Personally, I think they should definitely include more pastas in the menu because I’ve tried both of them and they are delicious!

The Signature Creamy Pesto Chicken & Mushroom Pasta ($11.90) is now one of my favourite creamy pasta dishes, and that’s saying a lot considering that I seldom like cream pastas. The pesto adds a certain fragrance to the cream sauce, cutting through the richness yet taking away none of the luxurious texture.

Tony’s Special Meatballs Pasta ($11.90) is also probably one of the better meatball pastas I’ve tasted in Singapore. The meatballs are hand-rolled with minced beef and studded with fennel seeds for extra fragrance.

What blew me away was the sauce. The tomatoes used in the sauce are the big juicy ones found in more temperate climates, not the more plain or raw-tasting local tomatoes.

New Outlet in Bugis

Other than the pizzas and pastas, Tony’s starters and side dishes are not to be missed as well. I really liked the Buffalo Wings ($5.90-$20). I would recommend the “hot” level of spiciness for most locals as that would be about the amount of spice that we would be accustomed too. If you’re a chilli fiend, you can go straight for the “atomic” level but at your own risk.

Tony’s Pizza will be opening its second outlet in Bugis Junction on Oct 1 with its usual pizza menu as well as a range of pastas available.
