Champagnes for the season

Nothing quite marks a celebration than with a glass of bubbly in hand while surrounded by loved ones

The year is coming to an end. To celebrate the occasion as well as to augur in the new year, why not toast to a brand new year of new opportunities?

One option is Devaux, which has a wide selection.

A Healthier Option

The Champagne House of Devaux’s latest showcase is the conceptualisation of the Collection <<D>>, brainchild of Cellar Master Michel Parisot.

L’Ultra D (from $85) is the latest in the line of the collection. Also coined La Purete, or The Purity, this champagne contains zero sugar. Despite this, you will not be short-changed in terms of taste.

It boasts a sensual nose, exuding fresh aromas of dried fruits, spices and saline notes. The low dosage also enhances purity and elegance in texture.

Striking a Balance

Probably the most classic of the lot would have to be the Grande Reserve (from $76). Also named L’Equilibre, or The Balance, this champagne possesses a nose of floral perfumes with hints of stone fruits such as peach and apricot.

The body is fine, intense and complex with hints of yellow plum on the finish.

The 100 Per Cent Club

Another beauty from Devaux is part of their 100 per cent Pinot Noir collection; the Blanc de Noirs ($95). Also nicknamed L’Ampleur or The Roundness, it has an evidently more intense and more complex nose, with notes of dried fruits and aniseed nuances.

It is elegant and soft on the taste buds, while remaining fresh.

Whichever your choice, make sure you have enough for the occasion.
