Les Bouchons Rive Gauche: Have A Luxurious French-Style Sunday Brunch

There’s nothing better than brunch – especially if it involves delicate crepes and indulgent steaks and roasts!

TGIF – it’s time to think of letting your hair down after a long week of work and of course, the best part of any weekend, brunch! Thankfully, you can now look foward to Les Bouchons Rive Gauche‘s inaugural Sunday brunch menu, the Bouchons Riviera Brunch!

Inspired by the decadence of the French Riviera, Les Bouchons’ first-ever a la carte brunch menu is carefully curated by Head Chef Mickael Cornac. The jovial Frenchman jested with us that one should never trust a skinny chef – and indeed, his sincerity and passion comes through in the heartiness of his cooking! As you relax by the Singapore River, sipping on a cocktail or champagne, look forward to new brunch-inspired dishes such as the Riviera Wellness Bowl, Bouchons Sunday Roast, and Crepes served with a choice of Nutella, Nutella banana or honey. Regulars will also be glad to know that crowd favourites like the Escargots De Bourgogne and Grilled Black Angus Rib Eye Steak & Frites are also included on the brunch menu!

Besides that, the menu also features a veritable array of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. From cocktails like the Bellini (S$18) and Bloody Mary (S$18), to an exclusive boutique collection of Jean Vesselle Champagne – we especially enjoyed the Brut Rosé de Saignée (S$78) – you will be spoilt for choice. Thinking of detoxing? Try the fresh juices: Incredible Hulk (S$10), made with kale, green apple, celery and turmeric; or the Orange Freshness (S$10), made with oranges, carrot and ginger, for an all-natural boost!

Start off your brunch light by ordering and sharing the classic French dish of Eggs Mimosa ($14++), also known as devilled eggs. Creamy and light on the palate, the eggs are the perfect starter for the meal ahead, especially with the delightful savoury crunch of the acccompanying grilled asparagus. Or to go with the vibes of being in a riverside French bistro, have the signature Escargots De Bourgogne ($16++), served piping hot with garlic butter. Redolent with the aroma of garlic and herbs, deliciously chewy and bursting with flavour, we found ourselves sopping up every spare bit of sauce with the accompanying bread!

If you’re vegetarian or conscious about your diet, we recommend the Riviera Wellness Bowl ($18++), a generous bowl filled with granola, honey yoghurt, passion tea-soaked goji berries, sliced banana, balsamic vinegar-macerated strawberries and chia seeds! Mix them all up for a nutritious yet scrumptious and filling treat – we loved the little bursts of sweetness and tanginess from the goji berries and strawberries! For those who prefer something savoury, the Quinoa Salad (S$14++) or Croque Monsieur ($18++) are great meat-free brunch choices as well.

Did you know that the concept of Sunday brunch is rumoured to have come about around 120 years ago as a means to overcome a British author’s own hangover from the night before? Paying homage to this, the Bouchons Riviera Brunch menu features the Gueule de Bois ($24++) or the Bouchons Hangover Cure, which is served with Impossible meatballs, scrambled eggs with truffle oil, sautéed porcini mushrooms, roasted cherry tomatoes and asparagus on a toasted sourdough bread. Generous, meaty-tasting and comforting; we think this is sure to cure any hangover!

Of course, if you’re feeling like something meatier and more indulgent (it’s brunch, after all) go for the crowd favourite Grilled Black Angus Rib Eye Steak ($39.80++)! Served with vigneron butter, mixed salad and free flow homemade french fries; the steak came beautifully tender and juicy, with the fries dangerously addictive. Beware.

Or if you feel like being surprised, order the Bouchons Sunday Roast ($32++), comprising the Roast of the Day served with mushroom sauce and roasted baby potatoes. The Roast of the Day usually varies each week – Chef Mickael served up a mean lamb roast the day we dined; with meat so tender it was falling off the bone, with nary a whiff of the gamey smell lamb sometimes can have.

End off your meal on a sweet note, with the delicate Crepes ($8++) served with a choice of fine sugar, Nutella, Nutella banana or honey. Or go for the classic Crème Brûlée Fait Maison (S$12++), sweetened only by the caramelised sugar topping and flavoured with a dose of citrusy Curaçao.

Our favourite had to be the Chocolate Brownie served with vanilla ice-cream (S$10++), though! Gooey, chocolatey-rich and warm, yet not cloyingly-sweet; the brownie paired well with the mild and creamy pistachio ice-cream (Chef was out of vanilla ice-cream that day). A classic that never goes wrong!
