Oceans of Seafood at Pasar Bella offers pristine cuts of fresh seafood

Since Pasar Bella opened its doors at The Grandstand, the artisanal farmers market has seen massive crowds on the weekends jostling for a glimpse and a taste.

Oceans of Seafood is one of the star attractions with its impressive display of fresh seafood on ice.

The seafood market has an attached eatery serving both Western and Japanese styles of seafood. The International section stocks seafood from Australia, North America, United Kingdom, South Africa, Norway and other parts of Europe.

Oceans of Seafood also tries to purchase directly from the fishers, bypassing the middlemen, and to pass the savings on the customers.

It also brings in farmed and, on occasion, wild bluefin and yellowfin tuna from Australia, flying fish, Hokkaido hairy crabs and snow crabs, arkshell, sea urchin and octopus legs from Tsukiji Market in Tokyo for the fresh experience found in Japan.

Extensive Range Diners can choose from over 70 sushi and sashimi items on the a la carte menu or even pick your own fish from the ice-bed and have the chef prepare it on the spot, with a nominal charge.

We were lucky to taste the Northern bluefin tuna which comes from the wild. Spring for the pricier fatty belly of the tuna (otoro and chutoro); you will not regret it.

Should you want your sashimi served in a sculpted ice-bowl, give them ample notice for preparation for a truly impressive presentation of a fish dish.

Japanese vs. International

The Japanese section seats 80 people while the International section seats 60. Both sides allow cross orders.

The International side serves boiled seafood with a selection of sauces. The cooking is deliberately simple to showcase the freshness of seafood, paired with sauces such as garlic butter, sambal, black pepper and miso butter. Choose from live lobsters, crabs and shellfish.

Oceans of Seafood also stocks Japanese rice, sauces and condiments and fresh produce such as grapes, melons and peaches.
