Silver Shell Cafe Seafood Buffet Night

The restaurant has launched themed buffet nights, presenting diners with the opportunity to experience new cuisine every night of the week.

I’m going out on a limb to say this, but Silver Shell Cafe is among the most family-friendly buffet establishments in Singapore.

When it comes to dining out with the family — few generations in tow, it can be a nightmare trying to please everyone.

The ideal balance is to find a restaurant that offers delectable eats to please the demanding adult palette, while offering child-friendly facilities and kid-sized plates for the little ones. More often than not, it’s a compromise between one or the other.

At Silver Shell Cafe, diners can have the best of both worlds.

Themed buffet nights

First off, the restaurant has launched themed buffet nights, presenting diners with the opportunity to experience new cuisine every night of the week.

Perfect for kids and adults with fickle taste buds, the buffet offers world cuisines as part of Feast at Rasa on Mondays and Sundays; local delights with Oh! Singapura on Tuesdays; Mediterranean signatures on Wednesday; Asian cuisine on Thursdays; a seafood feast on Fridays and finally, barbecues and roasts on Saturdays.

Guests who’re staying for more than a night, will be pleased with the sheer variety, while drop-in diners can simply pick an evening of their choice to indulge.

????????????????????????

Fans of Indian cuisine should make an order or two of the gooey and savoury cheese naan, which is best dipped in an accompanying bowl of butter chicken curry.

As a seafood lover, I chose to enjoy the buffet on Friday and was pleasantly surprised that despite the theme, the spread offered other selections like local zichar style dishes and Indian curries.

The seafood section alone, included a smorgasbord of fresh marine harvests ranging from oysters to lobsters, king crabs and scallops.

Diners can choose to savour these au naturel or grilled to perfection. I recommend having the juicy king prawns grilled and paired with some sambal chili and a squirt of lime — heavenly!

Be sure to order the savoury cheese naan.

Fans of Indian cuisine order the savoury cheese naan, which is best dipped in an accompanying bowl of butter chicken curry. Be warned, you might be tempted to finish an entire naan by yourself.

Those dining in large groups ought to order from the selection of fresh fish, which can be steamed a la minute for sharing. Grandparents will approve!

Family-friendly facilities

Give junior a chance to feel like an independent adult with the dedicated kids buffet corner, which comes with scaled-down-to-height counters. This area serves a comprehensive array of starters, appetisers, salads, hot selections as well as fruits and desserts.

Also available during buffet lunch and dinner is the BabyZone, a helpful addition for parents tending to the young ones. The zone offers complimentary baby food — we even spotted organic selections — as well as value-added amenities such as milk bottle sterilisers, a microwave, baby dining utensils, baby wipes and diapers.

On the whole, the impeccable quality of the buffet spread and service makes Silver Shell Cafe worth adding to your list of must-visit weekend (and weekday) dining options.

Theme dinners are available from 6 to 10pm at $52++ from Saturday to Thursday, $88++ on Friday and $68++ on Saturday. One child aged five years and below dines free with a paying adult. An additional child enjoys 50 per cent off the full buffet price.
