Tanjong Pagar Food Centre’s foodie treasures lay tucked away on level 2

The Weekender team took our lunch break all the way down to Tanjong Pagar this week for #HawkerTreasures. Popular amongst the working crowd in the area and the residents alike, we ventured to find the 7 dishes that you should try when you pop by here for lunch.

1. Basil Chicken Rice ($5.50), Issan Thai Food

A definite favourite among the Weekender Team and our Editor’s Pick, the delightful Basil Chicken Rice impressed us with its rich ‘wok hei’ flavour and was the perfect balance of sweet, savoury and spicy. Bits of minced chicken stir-fried to perfection with onions, chopped long beans and chilli (for that touch of heat), paired off with fragrant jasmine rice and a fried egg.

Another must-try dish is the Tom Yum Soup ($6) blew us away with its robust taste and depth of flavour. It came with a fresh medley of seafood and mushrooms, pairing perfectly with rice. What got me completely sold on this soup was that it was prepared fresh on the spot, which makes for an inevitable 5 to 10-minute wait, but boy was it worth it.
