Lauded as one of Thailand’s best restaurants, Nara Thai is equally popular among foodies here in Singapore.

At its ION Orchard branch, the plush, royal purple interior sets the scene for Thai street food of epic proportions.

While you’ll find the usual suspects like Phad Thai, diners are encouraged to expand their repertoire with traditional Ayuthaya dishes like the Kuay Tiew Rua, Moo or Nua (Boat noodles in Soup, Pork or Beef).

We learnt that the noodles’ aromatic, heavily spiced and slightly creamy broth is the first component prepared daily so as to coax out the flavours from slow boiling.

A perennial favourite is the Phunim Phad Pong Karee (Stir-fried soft shell crab with yellow curry), which offers a harmonious blend of textures — crisp soft shell crab is coated in silky layers of sweet and eggy curry.

Equally delightful is the Pla Kra Pong Nung Manao (Steamed sea bass with spicy chilli lime sauce), which drew some resemblance to Cantonese-style steamed fish if not for its vibrant Thai chilli lime sauce.

For desserts, we polished off the Kao Neaw Ma Muang (Mango and sticky rice with coconut milk), a worthy treat to conclude our Thai feast.
