A beautifully baked traditional mooncake may be a work of art, but its newfangled counterparts have nonetheless wrestled its way into our hearts and bellies.

1. Bakkwa Praline Poprocks Mochi Mooncake
Local flavours take centerstage in these mochi mooncakes ($68 a box) by dessert maverick Janice Wong. Each one is freshly made with Lima white beans instead of the usual lotus paste. The multi-layered mooncakes come in familiar yet fascinating flavours like Bakkwa Praline Poprocks and Laksa Leaf Lemongrass.
Available at Janice Wong restaurants including 2AM: Dessertbar, 21A Lorong Liput.
