Father’s Day Guide: Dining Adventures For Every Dad

Make it a memorable Father’s Day this year by treating Dad to one of these hearty feasts

By Samantha Francis

Fathers tend to be the pillars of the family, with their quiet, resilient ways and — who can forget — hilarious dad jokes.

While they may not fuss about celebrating Father’s Day, you can be sure these dining choices will satisfy their tummies and leave them feeling appreciated.

Camp Kilo Charcoal Club — Camping in the City

Is your dad’s idea of a jolly good time hanging out with friends over a backyard barbecue? If so, he’ll be a happy man at Camp Kilo Charcoal Club.

The main attraction of the newly-opened roast joint is a whole 30kg pig that’s cooked on the restaurant’s self-made spit for more than four hours.

Marinated with a blend of secret spices, it is best paired with flavourful side items like tom yum “cocido” beans (chickpea-based), sweet creamy corn and coconut rice. Meat lovers will be spoilt for choice with selections such as the Kai Yang Roasted French Poussin (young chicken).

Situated close to the serene Kallang riverside, the campsite-themed outdoor dining area is bound to ignite your dad’s memories of his camping days — whether in the army or as a Boy Scout.

Barrio by Mex Out — A Mexican Beer Garden

Give dad a good reason to knock back a couple of Spanish beers alongside fresh and authentic Mexican cuisine. Simply take him to Barrio by Mex Out for a feast of Mexican-American cuisine, and prepare to enjoy must-tries like tacos, burrito wraps and tortas (Mexican burgers).

Noteworthy is their chunky and delicious guacamole, made in-house daily with fresh avocado mashed and seasoned with lime, salt, red onions, jalapeno peppers and more. It’s best paired with the homemade tortilla chips and salsa, for a tangy, refreshing snack.

For the complete experience, don’t miss out on the Buttermilk Fried Chicken tortas. It comes with fluffy, buttered brioche buns and a chicken patty that’s been marinated in buttermilk, then deep fried in cold beer batter, and finally slathered with a creamy corn chipotle slaw.

Noshery — Chill Brunch for Laid-back Dads

Noshery is an idyllic getaway for the busy dad who wants to chill out over hearty brunch and coffee. Nestled in the quiet Rochester Park enclave, and thankfully far away from the usual crowded cafe haunts, the intimate dining spot almost feels like a serene cabin in the woods.

Walls with botany prints and mismatched furniture create a Wes Andersonian fantasy in which diners can enjoy dishes such as the Devil’s Breakfast — a big breakfast set of two eggs, spicy tomato ragu (meat-based sauce), chorizo, potato, sambal flakes and more — as well as fluffy Buttermilk Biscuits, served with a honey butter mixture for a salty-sweet delight.

If his palette prefers Asian flavours, the Yakitori Salmon with coconut rice and Vietnamese caramel will satisfy.

To round off your Father’s Day celebration, present Dad with Eton Mess, a classic English dessert made from crushed meringues, strawberry coulis and chantilly cream, and watch him beam from ear to ear.

If your dad is a consummate foodie whose taste buds are hard to please, you might want to take him to Pan Pacific Singapore.

Here, he’ll be spoilt for choice by an indulgent spread of international delights at Edge. Just for Father’s Day, Chef de Cuisine Ken Zheng has created the traditional Rickshaw Noodles with a contemporary twist, influenced by his own grandfather’s heritage.

Alternatively, you can indulge your dad at Hai Tien Lo, which will be offering two specially-crafted set menus of oriental delicacies.
