Bidding Goodbye To Five And Dime

One of the pioneers of the ‘hipster’ cafe scene in Singapore is closing their doors

By Nicole-Marie Ng

With the cafe scene in Singapore getting increasingly saturated, one of the pioneers of ‘hipster’ brunches is closing their doors to make way for a different dining concept.

After five years of operation, Five and Dime announced that they will cease operations come Apr 29.

When Weekender called to find out more, we were informed that the cafe believes that Singaporeans no longer have the need for yet another place serving eggs benedict in an assortment of flavours. Instead, they want to offer diners a different experience altogether.

Their new dining concept is set to open after some extensive renovations and will be serving a range of grilled meats.

As excited as we are for the new restaurant, we’ll be sad that we can no longer get our favourite Mentaiko Pasta and Salted Egg Lava Cake from Five and Dime any longer.

Here are five dishes we will be having at Five and Dime for one last time before they close their doors indefinitely:

1. Mentaiko Pasta, $18

Spaghetti tossed in a salty and creamy mentaiko sauce.

2. Salted Egg Yolk Lava Cake, $12

One of the first few cafes to get on the liu sha trend with this amazing lava cake. Still one of my favourite salted egg dishes available in Singapore.

3. Smoked Duck Soba Maki, $23

Smoked duck breast meat and pan seared foie gras served with homemade cha soba maki rolls.

4. Full of Crab Burger, $20

5. Spicy Miso Wings, $9

Fried chicken wings tossed in a spicy and tangy miso sauce.
